Messi suspended by Paris St-Germain; back to Barca?

PSG has suspended Argentina skipper Lionel Messi for two weeks after his trip to Saudi Arabia without the club’s approval this week.

The journey followed the French club’s home loss to Lorient on Sunday, in which Messi played the entire 90 minutes.

Messi will not practice or play for PSG during the time of his suspension.

It is understood the 35-year-old asked for approval to make the trip to carry out a commercial job but was denied. Messi believes he did initially have permission to go to Saudi, but that was then revoked due to a difference in the club’s training plan.

Messi, who the club has also penalised, has a role as a tourism representative for Saudi Arabia. The World Cup champion’s two-year agreement with PSG expires this summer.

Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste declared in March that the Spanish club were in touch with Messi about a comeback to the Nou Camp.

Leo has netted 31 goals and contributed 34 assists in 71 matches in all competitions for PSG, and won the Ligue 1 championship last season.

He is set to miss games against Troyes and Ajaccio as PSG, five points above with five matches to go, looks to fix a ninth league title in 11 seasons.

PSG’s fans don’t like Leo any more. Indeed, his agreement will not be renewed.
