Mumbai Rain: heavy rain lashes in several parts of Mumbai today

After weeks of no rain, continuous rain drenched sections of Mumbai and its suburbs on Sunday, somewhat hampering vehicle traffic in the city and its suburbs, according to ANI.

Following a dry day, the intensity of rainfall increased, with bouts of moderate rain covering the city and its surrounding areas late on Friday. According to an Indian Express report, the city received the most rain in August this year.

IMD prediction on Mumbai Rain:

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Santacruz weather station recorded 16mm of rain, while the Colaba observatory recorded 15.6mm of rain.

The old weather station reported 44.6mm of rain earlier on Friday, while the Colaba observatory recorded 10.2mm of rain.

With the city experiencing an increase in rainfall, the IMD issued a yellow advisory for Mumbai and its adjoining districts of Thane and Raigad for the next 24 hours on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the water supply in Mumbai’s seven lakes rose somewhat, reaching 86.48% of total capacity on Saturday morning.

Severe spells of showers in July:

In July, Mumbai and regions such as Raigad and Palghar had heavy rains, which caused serious flooding and hampered vehicle traffic on roads and highways.

The monsoon rains also caused a landslip in Raigad’s Irshalwadi, which killed at least 27 people.

An official informed PTI that Raigad has 2510.8 mm of rain, accounting for 81.6% of its annual rainfall. He noted that the district had received 95.7% of the usual rainfall in 2022.
