Tennis players didn’t hold back and branded Djokovic
“stupid & irresponsible” as he tested positive for Coronavirus.
A day after testing positive
for Covid-19 virus, tennis star & World No.1 – Novak
Djokovic has come
under heavy criticism from the world of tennis. After participating in the Adria Tour-an exhibition tennis tournament, some of the top
tennis players around the world have tested positive for the Coronavirus in the last few days. The tournament was
organized by Novak Djokovic and videos surfaced on the internet revealed that
social distancing norms were not followed properly, players went out to
basketball courts & night clubs, and they had packed avenues.
Nick Kyrgios brands Djokovic
“irresponsible”:
Nick Kyrgios made a series of tweets against the World No.1’s “bone-headed” decision. Kyrgios, whose behavior on the court has often come under the scanner, on Tuesday, tweeted, partying, and dancing video of Djokovic and other players who were part of the tournament, and how they breached the social distancing norms. Kyrgios, in his tweet, said that nothing he has done in his colorful past can match what the players who responded to the invitation and Djokovic have done. Kyrgios wrote,” Prayers up to all the players that have contracted Covid-19. Don’t @ me for anything I’ve done that has been “irresponsible” or classifies as ‘stupidity’- this takes the cake.”
Andy Murray slams Djokovic:
Andy Murray also
hit out at the Adria Tour initiative, as he was involved in an exhibition
tournament in London, but which adhered to the government’s social
distancing norms and with proper safety measures deployed. Murray slammed
Djokovic and said that the incident has given tennis a bad image. Murray said,”
I don’t think it (Adria Tour) has been a great look for tennis. Coronavirus
doesn’t care about who we are or what we do. We need to respect it and respect
the rules.”
Many other sporting stars also
condemned the “stupidity and irresponsibility” of Novak Djokovic.
