Both the leaders of their respective nations stressed on fighting the battle against post-COVID-19 challenges together. 

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the phone with the President of RussiaVladimir Putin, and congratulated him for the success of celebrations for the 75th anniversary of Victory Day. As per an official statement released, PM Modi also congratulated Putin, for the successful completion of the vote on constitutional amendments in Russia.

Major Victory in Russia for Putin:

In a major bid to change the constitution, Vladimir Putin had held a referendum to stay in power & be in the running for President till 2036. The results came out today, which revealed that 74% of votes were in favor of it. This means, that Putin could remain President for more two terms, for 16 more years.

PM Modi & Putin showed the desire to keep working together:

PM Modi talked on a call with Putin and recalled the military parade held in Moscow, where an Indian contingent participated on June 24, which was a “symbol of abiding friendship” between Russian & Indian people. Both the leaders agreed to continue their momentum of bilateral talks & consultations, before the annual bilateral summit in India is held, later this year.

The statement said,” The leaders took note of the effective measures undertaken by the two countries to address the negative consequences of the Covid-19 global pandemic and agreed on the importance of closer India-Russia ties for jointly addressing the challenges of the post-COVID world.” It further said that PM Modi conveyed his keenness to welcome President Putin in India and the Russian President thanked him for the phone call. 

Putin reiterated his commitment to enhancing the very good relations between the two countries & also urged to work strategically together, to combat post-COVID-19 challenges.
