In an interview with a television channel on Wednesday, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said Sharad Pawar was on board with a BJP-NCP government in 2019 with Devendra Fadnavis as chief minister and Ajit Pawar as his deputy; however, Sharad Pawar backed out 3-4 days before the unprecedented early morning swearing-in on November 23.
Clyde Crasto, an NCP spokeswoman, released a statement denying Fadnavis’ claim, saying that now that chief minister Eknath Shinde has subdued Fadnavis, he is attempting to gain prominence by exploiting Sharad Pawar’s name.
In an interview with Republic TV, Fadnavis stated once more that Ajit Pawar’s decision to join the BJP was contingent on his uncle Sharad Pawar’s approval. “If you want to understand Sharad Pawar’s mystery, you have to go back in time,” Fadnavis remarked in the interview.
“When Uddhav ji stopped returning our calls, we realised he wasn’t coming to us because he was after the CM’s chair.” At the time, some NCP members told us that the NCP wished to accompany us.
I want to emphasise that we met with Sharad Pawar, and it was determined that the BJP and the NCP would form the government.
It was determined that Ajit Pawar and I would form the government. “Suddenly, Pawar Sahab backed off,” Fadnavis stated.
“Is there anything else Ajit Pawar could do?” He had to accompany me as we made final preparations. He would have been found out. We took the oath, and Ajit Pawar assumed that Pawar Sahab would be present because we had so many meetings.
I’d like to emphasise that Sharad Pawar was the one who established the government at the time. “It wasn’t like Ajit Pawar, and I went to take the oath one fine morning,” Fadnavis explained.
Fadnavis clarified that he would not consider Sharad Pawar’s actions to constitute backstabbing: “I won’t say Sharad Pawar backstabbed us because he did not get elected with us.” He played a double game, in my opinion. Uddhav dumped us.”
