Faux Pas by Ashok Chavan Amuses Devendra Fadnavis

FormMaharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s inadvertent mistake while joining the BJP provided a light moment for Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Chavan, who switched from Congress to BJP after 38 years, mistakenly referred to Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar as “Mumbai Congress President”, drawing laughter from BJP supporters.

Despite the embarrassing slip of the tongue, Chavan expressed his excitement about starting a new journey with the BJP and emphasized his commitment to “positive politics”.

Chavan clarified that he had no terms for joining BJP and that his decision was independent. He, along with his aide, resigned from Congress and joined BJP.

Chavan’s decision comes ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls, with his entry into BJP speculated to influence Maharashtra’s political landscape.

While Chavan’s exit saddened Congress leaders, BJP welcomed him, with Fadnavis stating that the party would decide on Chavan’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha polls.

Chavan, a significant figure in Maharashtra politics, faced criticism for his exit from Congress, with senior party leader Jairam Ramesh taking a jibe at him for switching sides.
