Solskjaer Backs Michael Carrick to Revive Struggling Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has thrown his weight behind Michael Carrick, insisting his former teammate is the right man to lead Manchester United forward. The backing comes as pressure on Carrick grows after another damaging defeat in a dismal start to the season.

Chelsea Defeat Extends Winless Run

United travelled to Stamford Bridge on Saturday and lost 2-0 to Chelsea. The visitors held a slight edge in the first half, but the game turned shortly after the interval. Chelsea summer signing Morgan Rogers strolled through the United defence and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens to open the scoring.

Any hope of a comeback disappeared when Lisandro Martinez was sent off for two reckless fouls. The second led to a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted to seal the result.

The loss means United have gone nine games without a win, their longest such run since 1988. The club now sits 17th in the Premier League table, a position that would have seemed unthinkable at the start of the campaign.

Calls for Carrick’s Sacking Grow

Following the defeat, fresh calls emerged for the Old Trafford hierarchy to dismiss Carrick. Even so, the former England midfielder is expected to remain in charge for Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Roma, a match that offers United a chance to change the mood around the club.

Solskjaer, who managed United himself, appears unmoved by the criticism and continues to believe in Carrick’s ability to turn things around. His public support will be welcomed by Carrick’s camp, though results on the pitch will ultimately decide his future.

With the winless run now stretching into a ninth match and the Premier League table making uncomfortable reading, Carrick needs a response quickly. Tuesday’s European tie against Roma could prove a pivotal moment in his tenure.
