The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has been spot testing on global and Indian soil numerous times, but details about it are sometimes scarce and varying. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Royal Enfield motorcycle, based on spied images and information we’ve gathered.
Design and features
To begin with, the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan will be design for off-road use. With long travel USD forks, a tyre-hugging front fender, mono-shock at the rear, a side-slung exhaust. Spoked wheels, a tall windshield at the front to keep the air off the chest, wide bars, and disc brakes at both ends.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is expect to have dual-channel ABS with an off-road mode (which turns off the ABS for the rear wheels), LED lighting (as seen in the teaser image). And possibly a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel setup.
Engine features
The engine highlights the upcoming Himalayan 450 because it will be Royal Enfield’s first liquid-cooled motor. The machine will be a 450 cc single-cylinder unit with 40 bhp and a 6-speed transmission.
Liquid-cooling allows the engine to run at higher temperatures for extended periods. Resulting in better highway performance and fewer stops to cool down. Furthermore, manufacturers can extract more power from a liquid-cooled motor; however, RE will limit the power output so that the engine is less stressed, resulting in longer engine life.
Capability
If you can handle the weight, the current Royal Enfield Himalayan is a capable motorcycle that can take on most terrains. However, all motorcycles in this category have a similar weight, and when it comes to capabilities, the upcoming 450 will outperform the current-generation Himalayan.
