Buddh International Circuit gets green signal for MotoGP Bharat

The Indian Oil Grand Prix of India, hosting its inaugural MotoGP Bharat race, commenced with challenges and excitement.

Some riders encountered visa issues, resulting in their arrival just hours before the weekend’s events in Greater Noida.

The Buddh International Circuit (BIC), originally designed for Formula 1, required modifications to accommodate two-wheeled racing, with changes to corners and run-off areas.

Despite initial skepticism, rider reactions suggest that the BIC promises to be a thrilling track.

FIM approved the track for MotoGP Bharat:

Officials from the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) evaluated the track earlier in the year, outlining the necessary alterations to make it suitable for MotoGP Bharat. These changes were completed just in time for the race weekend.

However, this week, the final approval was granted only, leaving teams and riders apprehensive. Most riders conducted a customary track walk and shared positive impressions, labeling the track as interesting and different from others on the circuit.

Feedback from the Rider:

Reigning World Champion and championship leader Francesco Bagnaia found the track’s layout intriguing and distinct, with certain run-off areas appearing short.

Yamaha rider Franco Morbidelli echoed similar sentiments, praising the track’s features but expressing concern about the proximity of some run-off areas.

Fabio Quartararo talks about the high speed:

Fabio Quartararo highlighted the long back straight, expected to yield the season’s highest top speed, nearing 370 kmph.

However, he, too, raised concerns about the walls and run-off areas being too close. KTM rider Brad Binder, holding the current MotoGP speed record of 366kmph, emphasized his focus on braking for the corner rather than pursuing another top-speed record.

Marco Bezzechi Tops First Practice:

The first practice session at BIC saw Marco Bezzechi of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team making a strong start by topping the timing charts with a blistering time of 1:45:990. This placed him ahead of Marc Marquez and Brad Binder after the session.
