One day after 25 people have been killed in the collapse of the crematorium roof in the Muradnagar area of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said these accidents were the product of inadequate supervision by supervising officers of civil projects as well as warned that the guilty would be punished under the National Security Act (NSA).

CM Yogi stated during the divisional review meetings:

CM Yogi said he had instructed the officers to check the projects’ efficiency above Rs 50 lakh during the divisional review meetings conducted in September last year. In all the districts, including the officers of all the departments, a task force was formed to track the district projects’ performance, he added.

The chief minister questioned the officers what the working group was doing in Ghaziabad, where such an incident occurred, at a review meeting held at his official residence on Monday. The Divisional Commissioner, Meerut, and DM of Ghaziabad were also pulled over for their inability to verify the construction work’s efficiency.

“In the future, such events would not be accepted. “Under the National Security Act as well as the seizure of property, strict action would be taken against the guilty,” he added.

Further CM Yogi Adityanath stated:

The CM instructed Meerut, the divisional commissioner, and Meerut, ADG, to investigate the incident and send a report. The responsibility of senior divisional & district officials will be set, he said, based on the report.

The district officers were directed to carry out relief activities and send a report on the incident. The state government will support the victims with all possible support, added the CM.

As a state government spokesman stated:

A spokesman for the state government said that those arrested included municipal executive officer Niharika Singh, junior engineer Chandrapal, and supervisor Ashish. Late yesterday evening, contractor Ajay Tyagi, who was absconding, has been arrested.
