After years of waiting, Apple unveiled its first AR glasses, the Apple Vision Pro.

Apple has unveiled an augmented reality headset named Apple Vision Pro that “seamlessly” merges the real and digital world. “It’s the first Apple device you look through and not at,” CEO Tim Cook said of the product, which looks like a pair of ski shades.

As rumoured, it has a separate battery pack and is controlled with eyes, hands, and voice.

It will start at $3,499 and release early next year, beginning in the US market with more nations coming later in the year.

Vision Pro is positioned mainly as an AR device but can change between augmented and complete virtual reality using a dial.

The product is controller-free, and you browse rows of apps in an operating system named visionOS by looking at them. You can tap to pick and flick to scroll and give voice controls, and Apple says “hundreds of thousands of familiar iPhone and iPad apps” will automatically perform that way.

On top of that, the headset has Bluetooth accessories, including Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, and allows you to connect your Mac to use inside the device. Downward-facing cameras can catch your hands even if resting low on your body.

The product has a glass front, an aluminium frame, five sensors, 12 cameras, a 4K display for each vision, and a cooled computer with a fan.

The headset cover (which Apple dubs a “Light Seal”) and belt (which Apple dubs a “Head Band”) are cloth-lined and modular, and Apple states they can flex to fit a variety of face forms and head sizes.
