IMD forecast for Mumbai rain in next couple of days, Yellow alert

Mumbai rain: Rains return in Mumbai after a one-day break; MeT dept issues a ‘yellow alert’ for the following three days.

After a one-day halt, Mumbai saw medium to heavy showers on Tuesday, with continuous rains in some areas of the city.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional hub for Mumbai rain has given a ‘yellow alert’ for the following three days, forecasting heavy precipitation in isolated areas.

As per officers, local trains, the lifeline of Mumbai, were running on time on Tuesday on both the Central Railway and Western Railway lines.

However, several locals claimed the train services ran 10 to 15 minutes late.

Showers slowed down vehicular movement on streets in several places, but overall there was no major traffic jam anywhere, sources said. There was no notice of any significant water logging in the city, officers said.

Most areas of the city and suburbs, including Sion, Matunga, Kurla, Chembur, Andheri and Parel, have received medium to heavy rains since Monday evening.

An officer from the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport said their bus services were regular, and there was no diversion.

A civic officer said the island city, eastern and western suburbs got an average precipitation of 33 mm, 13.21 mm and 18.62 mm, respectively, in the 24 hours finishing at 8 am on Tuesday.
