According to the Union Ministry of Health on Monday, India had reported 86,961 cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the lowest in six days, and 1,130 deaths between Sunday and Monday morning. The tally for the world rose to 5,487,580 and the death toll to 87,882, data showed at 8 am.

The number of active cases of coronavirus disease is 1,003,299 and 4,396,399 recoveries following the recovered and discharge of 93,356 patients across the country during the last 24 hours. This brings the recovery rate of India to 80.11 per cent.

India on top in Recovery:

India ranks at the top of the world in terms of overall Recovery. More than 43 lakh got it back. India’s recoveries make up 19 per cent of overall global recoveries, “said the ministry.

Union Minister of Health Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday that the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) is currently exploring the saliva-based Covid-19 detection test and stated that no major or dramatic mutation in Sars-CoV-2 strains causing coronavirus disease had been identified in India so far.

During an exchange with his social media followers, Vardhan said that ICMR had been performing large-scale sampling of nationally representative Sars-CoV-2 virus strains collected over several months over various time-points. He added that, in early October, comprehensive data on mutations and virus evolution would be available.

In order to know the prevalence of coronavirus disease in the region, ICMR has successfully completed the second round of serosurvey, and the final round of results is reportedly being analysed.

“The survey’s final step review is now underway and will include contrast with the findings of the first survey,” it said in a statement.

The serosurvey is performed by testing blood samples for antibodies from selected individuals against Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. It identifies a prior infection, provided that most patients do not display symptoms, and not everyone gets screened for the viral infection.

During his discussion, the health minister also tried to dispel concerns created by the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine candidate’s suspension of trials, stating that vaccine production is a complicated process and trials have only resumed after an independent investigative expert panel allowed them to start.

Harsh Vardhan On Vaccine:

He clarified the difference between different vaccines under clinical trials in India, and because formulations, doses, route of administration for the vaccines are different, and their mechanisms of action are different too.

In the current context, Vardhan also spoke about the position of traditional medicine and told that the AYUSH ministry had established research protocols to validate claims for Covid-19 solutions by different Ayush practitioners, although no formulation was being validated as a particular drug.

There are more than 959,332 people worldwide who have died, according to the Johns Hopkins University coronavirus tracker.
