The defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP in Karnataka demonstrates that the ‘Modi wave’ is coming to an end, while the ‘opposition’s wave’ is sweeping the country, according to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday, a day after the Congress defeated the BJP in the southern state.
“The Modi wave has passed, and our wave is sweeping the country.” “Our preparation for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 has begun, and today a meeting has been called beneath the chairmanship of (NCP chief) Sharad Pawar….in this meeting, we will discuss the 2024 elections and begin preparing for them,” the Maharashtra politician stated, according to ANI.
Sanjay Raut said that the saffron party’s defeat in Karnataka demonstrates that citizens can fight ‘dictatorship.’
“Because the Congress won, Bajrang Bali now belongs to the Congress rather than the BJP.” The home minister (Amit Shah) predicted rioting if the BJP lost. Karnataka is peaceful and joyful. “Where are the riots?” he inquired.
The BJP’s setback in the only southern state where it has held power comes before the next general election, scheduled for April-May 2024, in which the party, as well as Prime Minister Modi, will seek a third consecutive term in office.
Its defeat has thus not only galvanised opposition parties in their efforts to form a united anti-BJP front in 2024; the fact that it was defeated despite heavy campaigning by the prime minister himself has added to the opposition’s confidence.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has met with several non-BJP leaders in preparation for the proposed combined opposition alliance.
In Bihar, Kumar’s JD(U) is an ally of the Congress, as are the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Pawar’s NCP in Maharashtra.
In the 543-member Lok Sabha, the two states share 88 seats (Maharashtra-48, Bihar-40).
In reality, the former sends the most representatives to the Lok Sabha, second only to the BJP stronghold of Uttar Pradesh, which has 80 seats. In comparison, Karnataka has 28.
