Sachin Tendulkar lodged a complaint against the fake advertising

Sachin Tendulkar, a former Indian cricketer, has registered a police complaint with Mumbai Crime Branch’s cyber unit, alleging that his name, voice, and photos are being used in fraudulent advertisements to deceive consumers online.

The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell has opened an investigation and filed a case against unknown persons under sections 426, 465, as well as 500 of the Indian Penal Code.

Celebrities in India and worldwide have encountered similar difficulties in which their images or voices have been utilised commercially to defraud people on the internet.

As per several media sources, Sachin Tendulkar’s assistant found an oil company commercial on Facebook that exploited Tendulkar’s picture for promotion, saying that the experienced athlete approved the product.

Similar advertisements were also discovered on Instagram.

The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell has registered a case in this subject under several parts of the Indian Penal Code, such as cheating and forgery, and also pertinent portions of the IT Act.

For those who don’t know, this is not the first time someone has taken over Sachin Tendulkar’s picture or voice to promote a product, duping people online.

Sachin Tendulkar team published a statement in 2020, threatening legal action against companies and individuals who use his name and photo for commercial purposes without permission.

Tendulkar has previously sued a casino in Goa for using a modified photograph of him in promotional material.
