India will definitely have some selection headaches heading into the third Test against Australia with Rohit Sharma looking set to return to the side.
I would have kept Mayank Agarwal. He didn’t look fine, I agree, but he’s a quality player. “Gavaskar said.
Besides the batting order, the calf injury of Umesh Yadav is another issue that is likely to keep the management of the Indian team on their toes.
Shubman Gill should be moved down to No.5 over the next Test towards Australia.
India will definitely have some selection headaches heading into the third Test against Australia with Rohit Sharma looking set to return to the side.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar expressed his thoughts on playing XI India should be competing in Sydney for the all-important third test from January 7. The legendary Indian cricketer said that Rohit Sharma must immediately come to the side and open up with Mayank Agarwal.
Gavaskar on India’s playing 11 on show Extra Innings:
I would have kept Mayank Agarwal. He didn’t look fine, I agree, but he’s a quality player. “Gavaskar said Sanjay Manjrekar since the latter asked him about India’s team selection for the third test in the Extra Innings show on Sony Sports Network, “I’d hold him on the side and opening the batting with Rohit.
After finishing his quarantine, Rohit joined the India team in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Shubham Gill should move to number 5:
Shubman Gill, who dominated with knocks of 45 and 35* on debut, says Gavaskar, unexpectedly, should be moved down to No.5 over the next Test towards Australia.
“Gavaskar added, “Given the fact that Shubman Gill looks so good at the top, I’d be aiming to beat him at No. 5.
Gavaskar also clarified the reason behind his views and said that in the middle order, Gill’s method would be better suited.
“I’m not too confident that he also would be batting down the order with his approach too effective at the opening position at the U19 level, so I think the perfect position would be for Shubman Gill no. 5,” he added.
Gavaskar stated Gill would immediately drive Hanuma Vihari out of the playing XI by batting at No.5.Gavaskar added, “The rest of the team must stay the same but, obviously, if Gill bats at five, Vihari goes out automatically.”
The Umesh Yadav’s calf injury:
Besides the batting order, the calf injury of Umesh Yadav is another issue that is likely to keep the management of the Indian team on their toes. On Day 3 of the second test, the fast bowler troubled off the field as well as did not take another part.
Although the scan reports showed nothing serious, a call for the availability of Umesh can only be made close to the third test. Then Navdeep Saini or T Natarajan could’ve been handed their test debut if he doesn’t recover his health.
In the four-match series, India, however, staged a spectacular comeback. After losing the first Test in Adelaide, they defeated Australia by 8 wickets in Melbourne to level the series.
