14 Booked Across Gujarat for Anti-National Posts Amid Operation ‘Sindoor’
The Gujarat Police have booked 14 individuals across the state for allegedly uploading anti-national content and demoralising the Indian armed forces amid the ongoing Operation “Sindoor”. The action comes as part of a state-wide crackdown on digital misinformation and malicious social media activity during heightened national security operations along the India-Pakistan border.
According to officials, the offensive content included posts that questioned the motives and legitimacy of Operation Sindoor, spread divisive or communal narratives, and attempted to lower the morale of Indian security personnel. The posts were flagged as potentially damaging to national security and public unity during a sensitive period.
Two First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered each in Bhuj and Jamnagar, both strategically significant areas. Bhuj lies close to the border and plays a critical role in India’s western defence network, while Jamnagar is home to vital coastal and defence infrastructure. Additional FIRs were lodged in Vapi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Patan, and Godhra, bringing the total number of cases registered to 14.
Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay said that Gujarat Police had launched a state-wide digital surveillance campaign from the onset of Operation Sindoor. “We mobilised cybercrime experts and external cybersecurity consultants to monitor online platforms in real time,” Sahay stated. “Those who misuse social media to spread hate, disinformation, or demoralise the forces will face strict legal action.”
He stressed that such actions during a time of military engagement are not only irresponsible but criminal. “This is not just about freedom of expression. In times of national security operations, such acts are tantamount to endangering national interests.”
Police sources added that charges were filed under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, and other laws pertaining to national security. Authorities are also investigating whether the accused were influenced or directed by foreign-based handlers or hostile groups.
Operation “Sindoor” is a large-scale, ongoing military initiative by Indian forces along sensitive stretches of the western border aimed at neutralising infiltrations and ensuring border security. The operation has been in the spotlight following recent escalations and a ceasefire understanding reached between India and Pakistan.
The Gujarat Police have also issued a public advisory, urging citizens not to share or amplify unverified or inflammatory content on social media. The advisory warns that spreading false narratives in the current climate will attract serious legal consequences.
