Sushmita Sen Celebrates 31 Years of India’s First Miss Universe Victory
Actor Sushmita Sen marked a special milestone on May 21 as she celebrated the 31st anniversary of her historic Miss Universe win in 1994. At just 18, Sen made history by becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious global title, and on Tuesday, she took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion with a heartfelt note and a nostalgic collection of photos.

Her face lit with disbelief and joy in those pictures continues to symbolize a defining moment in India’s pageant history.
Captioning her post, Sen wrote, “A historical win that introduced an 18-year-old Indian girl to the Universe!!! Opening up a world of possibilities, highlighting the strength of hope, the power of inclusion, the generosity of love… To travel the world & to have the privilege of meeting some of the most inspiring people—life-defining for sure!” She also expressed gratitude to her parents, tagging her mother and father in the post.
She further added, “Happy 31st Anniversary of India’s first-ever victory at Miss Universe!!! To have the honour of representing my country, I will proudly cherish forever!!!” She also acknowledged the Philippines—where the Miss Universe pageant was held in 1994—and sent love to her fellow contestants and friends from the event, including Colombian actress and fellow contestant Carolina Gómez.

Actor Dia Mirza, who was crowned Miss Asia Pacific International in 2000, shared, “Will never ever forget what you made me feel and believe. Love you!”
