After a heavy downpour, rivers and dams in the Navsari district overflow, and teams from the federal and state disaster response forces are evacuating people.

Navsari NH is closed, Valsad, and Dang districts in south Gujarat. Navsari Collector Amit Prakash Yadav ordered the temporary closure of NH 48 from Alipore in Navsari district to Valsad on Thursday morning.

According to Yadav, the NH was temporarily close after floodwaters inundate the road. “There is still a flood-like situation in three talukas, Navsari, Gandevi, and Jalalpore, and our teams are engage in rescue work,” Yadav said.

The Navsari district’s Kaveri, Purna, and Ambika rivers are overflowing due to heavy rains, flooding many villages. In addition, the district’s Juj and Keliya dams are also bursting due to heavy rainwater inflow from catchment areas.

While National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force teams are evacuating people trapped in flood-ravaged villages. A Surat fire department team has also arrived in Navsari to assist with rescue and evacuation efforts.

Surat NGO workers have also reached the district’s flood-affected villages and are distributing food packets.

Though the torrential rain that has lashed Gujarat for the past week has subsided in some areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issue a red alert for five districts. That are expect to accept heavy to very heavy rainfall. In addition, the weather service has issued a red alert for the following areas. Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Dang, Valsad, and Navsari.

Furthermore, 30 reservoirs are 70% to 100% full, 27 are 50% to 70% full, 51 are 25% to 50% full, and 77 are less than 25% full.

Teams from the NDRF and SDRF, as well as local police and administration, rescued more than 110 civilians. And four animals trapped in water in villages throughout the Kutch district, including Bhuj, Nakhtrana, Lakhpat, Abdasa, Mundra, and Mandvi.
