Aakash Mehta talks about the shift from Standup’s to OTT

Aakash Mehta talks about the shift from Standup’s to OTT

Aakash Mehta, a comedian who recently had his OTT debut with the reality show Social Currency, is looking to push into filmmaking. “I have a small part in a movie that will be released within the year.

“I can’t say much about it, but it’s part of my quest to explore new realms and show the audience my non-funny side.

“It’s difficult to find people who take me seriously,” Mehta adds, adding that his persona is the polar opposite of what most people believe.

Aakash Mehta talks about his OTT debut:

“I am a highly sensitive and emotional individual.” And I want others to see me in that way. I should go to the main stage if I want to do comedy.

That’s why I’m mostly into serious things like research and reading about things I don’t understand when I’m not doing comedy. “I’m a nerd in that way,” adds Mehta, whose standup special Nasty debuted earlier this week.

He adds, “Nasty is my oldest show, and I’ve been performing it since 2019.” It’s about something I’m passionate about sex education. It discusses consent, health, poor behaviour, bad language, Indian society, and other topics.

This presentation was my method of increasing awareness about this critical issue across the country. And now, when I visit small towns and institutions, I see how these jokes have made a significant difference in the lives of young people. Jokes are a great way to discuss uncommon topics, and that is exactly what I have done with this special.”

Mehta about his Standup Comedy career:

While his jokes are highly relatable, Mehta claims this was never his purpose. “Jo bhi ho raha hai bahut galti se horha hai. Comedy is my love, and I want to reach a point where I can convey something to comedy which it does not already hold. Agar joke accha hai, toh accha hi rhega. Relatable hai ya nahi, wo mera concern nahi hota,” he stated us.

Comedy is a “great way to process his life” for him. “I can talk about anything,” he continues, “and there are no restrictions.”

It is not about what is and is not permitted. It all hinges on whether you can get away with it or not. It’s about being able to talk about topics you otherwise couldn’t without offending people.”

While a joke on sensitive topics might be a way to educate individuals, it not landing well might sometimes backfire, resulting in criticism.

However, Mehta admits that “people get offended simply because they want to.” So he avoided doing anything that would offend anyone. “Isme padhna hi nahi hai mujhe,” he says finally.
