In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra recorded 8,129 new cases of coronavirus illness (Covid-19) and 200 more fatalities. 

Aside from the 200 new fatalities, the state has added 1,392 more deaths to the total death toll. According to the most recent figures, the state’s tally now stands at 5,917,121 cases, with 112,696 deaths.

In the major city of Mumbai, 530 new Covid-19 cases and 19 new deaths were reported during the day, bringing the total number of cases to 716,190 and the total number of fatalities to 15,202.

According to the data, 14,732 patients were discharged on that day, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 5,654,003.

Meanwhile, medical personnel in the state tested 168,902 samples for Covid-19 on the day, bringing the total number of samples tested in Maharashtra to 38,215,492. According to the data, the daily positivity rate was 4.82 per cent, and the cumulative positivity rate was 15.38 per cent.

Pune recorded 261 new Covid-19 cases, while Navi Mumbai and Thane both reported 71 fresh cases. On the same day, 22 more persons tested positive for the disease in Nagpur, while 41 people tested positive in Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC).

According to a state health department report, the number of fresh cases in Maharashtra has decreased to 147,354. 

There are 8,234 fewer active cases today than there were on Sunday when there were 155,588. In terms of active caseload, the state is second only to Karnataka, contributing the most to the national total.

Pune, with 19,047 active cases, is the worst district in the state, followed by Mumbai (18,205 cases), Thane (15,686 cases), Kolhapur (15,156 cases), and Sangli (10,077 cases).

On the day, Ajit Pawar, the state deputy chief minister, instructed the Kolhapur district administration to quadruple Covid-19 tests because the district’s Positive rate remained higher. 

According to news agency PTI, along with state health minister Rajesh Tope, he held a review meeting of the pandemic situation in the district. 

Also, for the first time since the pandemic reached the state in February 2021, Dharavi in Mumbai recorded no new Covid-19 cases on Monday, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
