The 2nd ODI among India and Australia saw the bowling line-up of Virat Kohli struggling still on a dry surface that the bowlers had nothing to offer.

But how much Virat Kohli kept changing his bowlers was one of the surprising characteristics of the match. Although Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah started the attack for India, after only two overs, the former was replaced by Navdeep Saini.

Indian bowlers were struggling:

Although it looked like Kohli wanted Shami to shift the end from in which he was bowling, instead of bringing back Bumrah, the India captain let Sain continue the attack.

When his bowlers struggled in the centre, Kohli also gave overs to Mayank Agarwal as well as Hardik Pandya in the centre.

Ashish Nehra in an interview with Cricbuzz:

The retired India pacer Ashish Nehra, talking in an interaction on Cricbuzz, stated that Kohli is an impulsive captain, but he needs to find out when to switch his bowlers.

In today’s game, Virat Kohli gave Mohammed Shami two overs and then brought in Navdeep Saini. He decided to bowl Shami from the other end, which I agree, but then why would he choose Jasprit Bumrah with the new ball for just two overs? “Said Nehra.

I accept that Virat Kohli has been making frequent bowling adjustments. He only had five options for bowling. Mayank Agarwal and Hardik Pandya were used by India – this was a decision taken on the field. If things went in the direction of India, you wouldn’t have seen these two get an over.

Nehra on Kohli’s decision:

In his decisions, Virat Kohli is hasty. It seemed like he was in a rush in the previous game (first ODI) as well after Kohli was dropped.

Kohli has been chasing 350 on many occasions in his career, which is not a big deal for him. But it seemed he was seeking 475, not 375,’ added Nehra.

“Kohli is, I believe, an impulsive captain. In his bowling, he makes so many improvements. Nehra signed off, and this is an area he wants to take care of.

After beating India by 51 runs in the 2nd ODI, Australia took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. On Wednesday, the two teams will play the third as well as final ODI.
