DCW will take action on Trolls abusing Shubhman Gill’s sister

Swati Maliwal, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson, reacted strongly to reports that cricketer Shubhman Gill and his sister Shahneel Gill were abused on social media following the batsman’s brilliant century that helped Gujarat Titans defeat Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in an Indian Premier League match on Sunday night.

Maliwal, who shared screenshots of some of the Twitter users who reportedly insulted Shubhman’s sister, said the DCW would take action against all those who have mistreated her. “This will not be tolerated!” said the DCW chief on Twitter.

“It’s extremely upsetting to see trolls abusing #ShubhmanGill’s sister simply because the team they support lost a match.” Previously, we had taken action against folks who were abusing #ViratKohli’s daughter…” she continued.

The trolls began attacking the siblings shortly after Gujarat Titans delivered a knockout punch to RCB in the last league stage game, thanks to Gill’s magnificent knock of 104 not out.

Trolls targeted Gill’s sister, particularly after her Instagram post following the match.

Following a complaint from the DCW, the Delhi Police launched an FIR against unnamed individuals in January for allegedly making sexual comments on social media about the daughters of Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.

The FIR was filed at the Special Cell unit of the city police beneath the relevant part of the Information Technology Act, according to the police, who added that an investigation was underway.

Maliwal stated that such remarks were increasingly made about cricketers’ wives and daughters, even threatening to rape them.

After becoming aware of several social media posts that targeted the cricketers’ daughters, the commission had taken action on its initiative.
