Expansion of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Facilities in Mumbai

Mumbai is set to receive a new maintenance depot for the upcoming air-conditioned (AC) Vande Bharat sleeper trains, with Jogeshwari identified as the location for this facility.

Infrastructure Development in Progress

In the interim general budget, the Western Railway has received funds for the ₹60 crore project to develop the maintenance depot between Jogeshwari and Ram Mandir railway stations. Initial paperwork and documentation have commenced, with tender invitations expected soon.

Enhancing Railway Facilities

The new maintenance depot will complement the ongoing efforts to establish a terminus at Jogeshwari, providing comprehensive facilities for train maintenance and operations. The depot will include washing lines and a New Coaching Terminus, accommodating 24-car trains upon termination.

Improved Connectivity and Accessibility

The development of the Jogeshwari terminus is expected to enhance connectivity for passengers traveling to Gujarat and other destinations. It will serve commuters from areas like Borivali, Kandivali, Andheri, and Vasai, reducing the need to travel to Mumbai Central, Dadar, or Bandra Terminus.

Similar Developments Across Rail Networks

The Central Railway has also initiated works at Wadi Bunder for the maintenance of AC Sleeper Vande Bharat trains. With significant investments in infrastructure upgrades and the procurement of new energy-efficient trains, the Indian Railways aims to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency across its network.
