Gujarat weather: The Indian Coast Guard has alerted fishermen in Gujarat, advising them to return to shore immediately in light of an upcoming change in weather.
Porbandar, Gujarat – The Indian Coast Guard has issued an urgent advisory to fishermen operating along the Gujarat coast, urging them to return to shore immediately due to anticipated adverse weather conditions. This comes as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts rainfall and potential storms in the region over the coming days.
Coast Guard on High Alert
To ensure maritime safety, Coast Guard vessels have been broadcasting warnings via loudspeakers to fishing boats at sea, asking them to dock and remain ashore until further notice. The move aims to prevent maritime accidents and reduce risk during the anticipated weather shift.
Navy Boosts Security Amid Pakistan Tensions
In parallel with weather-related precautions, the Indian Navy has ramped up operations in the North Arabian Sea. This escalation follows recent tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. The Navy has already issued four green notifications for firing exercises just 85 nautical miles off the Gujarat coast, close to where Pakistan is holding naval drills.
The Indian Hydrographic Office has also released a warning about an upcoming military exercise involving live fire by Indian Navy ships and aircraft off the coast of Porbandar. Merchant vessels and fishing boats are strongly advised to avoid the area during the exercise period for their safety.
High-Level Meetings
Amid these developments, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg on Saturday evening. On the same day, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also held talks with the Prime Minister, indicating a day of high-level security deliberations.
The twin pressures of inclement weather and regional military tensions have prompted both the Coast Guard and Navy to act swiftly to ensure public and maritime safety along the western coast of India.
