Inadvertent mistake ‘: Twitter reacts to the removal of the profile image of Amit Shah.

Key Points:

Twitter has attributed the withdrawal of the profile picture of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from his account.

We momentarily locked this account under our global copyright policy due to an inadvertent mistake.

While the image was restored later, other details were not shared by Twitter.

Leh had been shown as part of China by the social media giant after the government had written to Twitter CEO Dorsey.

Twitter has attributed the withdrawal of the profile picture of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from his account on the microblogging platform to an “inadvertent mistake.”

Twitter Spokesperson stated:

The social media giant would have to temporarily lock Shah’s account under its global copyright rules because of the mistake, a Twitter spokesperson said.

“We momentarily locked this account under our global copyright policy due to an inadvertent mistake. The decision was immediately reversed and the account is completely functional,” added the spokesperson.

Shah’s display image was deleted from his Twitter account:

On Thursday, in response to a “report from the copyright holder,” Shah’s display image was deleted from his official Twitter account, which also has 23.6 million followers.

Clicking on Shah’s profile image on his Twitter account showed a blank screen with the message: “Media not displayed.” In answer to a report from its copyright holder, this image was deleted.

Image restored Later by Twitter:

While the image was restored later, other details were not shared by Twitter. “In general, the photographer, as well as NOT the subject of an image, is the holder of the real right of its resultant photograph,” the copyright rules state.

Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had issued a notice:

“The “inadvertent” blocking of Shah’s profile image by Twitter came on the day that a notice was sent to him by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, seeking clarification in five days about why no legal action should be taken against him for displaying Leh as part of Jammu & Kashmir, or not Ladakh.

Although Twitter has said it has replied to the government’s message, the map to show Leh being part of Ladakh’s Union territory, but not Jammu and Kashmir, has yet to be corrected.

Earlier, Leh had been shown as part of China by the social media giant after the government had written to Twitter CEO Dorsey, creating an objection. However, this mistake was corrected.
