Australia’s assistant coach Andrew McDonald claims that Smith, and Labuschagne, would not be a big worry for the team in the current test.
In the ongoing series, R Ashwin, as well as for Jasprit Bumrah, created the two batsmen a great deal of trouble.
Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have struggled to perform to the extent they are supposed to perform so far and have been further hit by Australia’s team’s failure to hold the field during this rough period. In four innings, Smith did not cross single-digit ratings, getting out for 1, 0, and 8 as well as remaining on 1*.
On the other hand, Labuschagne was unable to turn his beginnings into major knocks, and while he earned scores of 28, 47 & 48, in 2 tests, he only scored 129 runs.
Andrew McDonald on Smith and Labuschagne:
Australia’s assistant coach Andrew McDonald claims that Smith, as well as Labuschagne, would not be a big worry for the team in the current test series against India. McDonald suggested that in the rest of the match, the two batsmen would eventually find a way to beat India.
“To judge Steve Smith in the centre, I wouldn’t be too quick. Oh, in this series, he doesn’t have to go yet. He looked pretty decent in the first few balls he faced in the first innings of the Boxing Day Test, and he looked good also on nets too. And Marnus, too,” stated McDonald.
At present, the question for me is the strategic way India prepared and was able to monitor those two players with a kind of leg-side theory, in particular, so to speak. So, I think both of those players are going to have to come up with a better form.
Andrew McDonald on R Ashwin and Bumrah.
In the ongoing series, R Ashwin, as well as for Jasprit Bumrah, created the two batsmen a great deal of trouble. McDonald admitted that India had its plans towards Smith and Labuschagne figured out, but still showed faith in the two batsmen to step over the tough patch and return to the business.
McDonald further stated:
“Technically, I do not even think it has anything to do. Technically, they are in a good space, but it is the way to score runs and how Indian bowlers and captains can battle these tactics, which has been addressed in our conversation,” McDonald further added.
