Mohan Bhagwat Says Era of Blind Obedience Has Ended

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Friday that the age of unquestioning obedience has ended, and that young people today expect explanations rather than orders. Speaking at the closing session of the two-day “Yuganukul Matrutva” (Contemporary Motherhood) event organised by Vishwamangalya Sabha at the Ambedkar International Centre in Nagpur, he said the current generation constantly asks questions and needs patience, affection and honest reasoning from elders rather than blind compliance. He also expressed concern that meaningful conversation has become rare even within families.

Individualism Threatens Family Structures

Bhagwat criticised what he called a growing global trend of extreme individualism, arguing that many people now reject marriage, family responsibility and social obligation in pursuit of personal freedom. He described a mindset in which relationships are viewed as restrictive burdens rather than sources of meaning, reducing human bonds to simple transactions. According to him, societies that once embraced this outlook are now reconsidering it, and he alleged that confusion around traditional values was being deliberately spread, with some pushing to dismantle anything considered sacred.

Technology Should Serve, Not Rule, Humanity

On the subject of rapid technological change, Bhagwat expressed confidence in India’s cultural foundation, describing it as deeply rooted in lived experience rather than abstract theory. He said there was no reason to fear technology, asserting that people should aim to master and control it for humanity’s benefit instead of becoming dependent on it. He further noted that even scientists increasingly acknowledge the limits of science in answering every question.

The event drew around 280 women delegates from across India, with participation swelling to more than 900 for the concluding session.
