Maharashtra Resident Doctors Initiate Indefinite Strike

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors Central (MARD) has announced a state-wide indefinite strike starting today at 5 pm, demanding improvements in hostel accommodation, a stipend hike, and clearance of arrears.

Dr. Abhijit Helge, President of MARD, emphasized that despite previous calls to end strikes, the authorities have failed to address the legitimate concerns of resident doctors adequately.

Disappointment with Authorities

Expressing disappointment with the government’s inaction, Dr. Helge highlighted the repeated calls made by MARD to resolve the issues faced by resident doctors. Despite assurances from the authorities, the situation has not improved, leading MARD to take this decisive step. The letter from MARD underscored the organization’s frustration with the authorities’ failure to address resident doctors’ genuine grievances, prompting the decision to initiate the indefinite strike.

Commitment to Emergency Services

While the strike is in effect, MARD has assured the public that emergency services will continue to operate uninterrupted. Ensuring the provision of essential medical care remains a priority for resident doctors, even as they press for improvements in their working conditions and remuneration.

Scope of the Strike

Approximately 8,000 resident doctors across Maharashtra will participate in the strike, amplifying their collective voice to demand better living conditions, a fair stipend hike, and the prompt clearance of arrears. The unity and resolve of resident doctors underscore the severity of the issues they face and their determination to secure meaningful reforms.

As the strike unfolds, the spotlight remains on the government’s response to the demands put forth by MARD. The outcome of this standoff will not only impact the welfare of resident doctors but also the delivery of healthcare services in Maharashtra.
