Prime Minister felicitates Asian Games heroes, highlights India’s rising young talent.
New Delhi witnessed a celebratory evening at the Ashoka Hotel as Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured India’s Asian Games 2026 contingent. Among the athletes present was teenage cricket prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who played a key role in India’s gold medal victory in Tokyo.
The Prime Minister’s address praised the country’s athletes across disciplines- cricket, hockey, boxing, and more who delivered record‑breaking performances at the Aichi‑Nagoya Games. Modi emphasized that India’s success was not only measured in medals but also in the historic milestones achieved by its sportsmen and women.
A particularly striking moment came when Modi spoke about the youngest members of Team India. “This time in the Asian Games, there were many players whose age was only 15 to 17 years. At such a young age, these players have enhanced the country’s pride with their spectacular performances. They have won the hearts of the fellow citizens. This shows that for success, age is not a restriction,” he said.
Though he did not mention Vaibhav Sooryavanshi directly, the cameras captured the 15‑year‑old smiling as the Prime Minister praised India’s teenage medal winners. The gesture symbolized recognition of a new generation of athletes reshaping India’s sporting landscape.
Modi also outlined the government’s vision for nurturing talent from an early age. He stressed the importance of identifying and training children between five and fifteen years through initiatives like Khelo India and Emerging Khelo India. “In the coming years, thousands of new players will get opportunities to advance,” he assured, reinforcing the commitment to grassroots development.
The Prime Minister reserved special appreciation for India’s female athletes, noting that of the 85 medals won, women secured 38, including 11 golds. “These medals are not just a number. This is a picture of a new India,” he remarked, highlighting the growing strength and visibility of women in sports.
For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the felicitation was another milestone in a breakthrough year. His smile during Modi’s speech reflected both pride and promise- the pride of representing India at the highest level and the promise of a future where young athletes continue to shine on the global stage.
