Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Faces Unexpected Box Office Rival in Akshay Kumar’s Mohra

Ranbir Kapoor’s much-awaited Ramayana: Part 1 is set for a grand theatrical release on November 5, 2026, but the mythological epic may face an unexpected challenger. Akshay Kumar’s 1994 action thriller Mohra returns to cinemas in a 4K-remastered version on November 6, just a day later. The two films belong to very different eras and genres, yet their back-to-back release dates could spark an intriguing contest between a mega-budget spectacle and a beloved Bollywood classic.

Mohra Returns After 32 Years

Directed by Rajiv Rai and produced by Gulshan Rai under Trimurti Films, Mohra first released on July 1, 1994, and became one of that year’s biggest hits. The film featured Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal and Gulshan Grover. Its story follows Vishal Agnihotri, played by Suniel Shetty, a prisoner seeking justice for his wife’s murder who gets drawn into a wider conspiracy. Akshay plays Inspector Amar Saxena, whose investigation slowly exposes the truth behind a series of killings.

The film remains fondly remembered for its suspenseful plot and chart-topping songs such as Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast and Tip Tip Barsa Paani.

Spectacle Versus Nostalgia at the Box Office

Ramayana: Part 1 arrives with grand visuals and strong star power, positioning itself as a major Diwali-season attraction. Mohra, on the other hand, banks on nostalgia and its cult music to draw audiences back to theatres.

However, the re-release is expected to have a limited theatrical footprint. That could restrict how much direct competition it offers the new epic, even if it attracts loyal fans of the original.

Whether the classic can carve out its own audience or the mythological blockbuster dominates the screens, the November 5-6 window promises an interesting face-off for moviegoers and trade watchers alike.
