In Lok Sabha, PM Modi talked on Manipur issue and also slammed the opposition.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised the people of ethnically volatile Manipur that the entire country is with them and that peace will be restored in the northeastern state shortly.

In response to the opposition’s request to comment on the violence in Manipur, PM Modi said, “Both the state and central governments are doing everything possible to ensure that the accused receive the harshest punishment.”

PM Modi on Manipur violence:

“I want to tell the people of Manipur, including women and daughters, that the country is with you,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated.

PM Modi also criticised the Congress for leaving the state in an insecure condition during their regime.

“During the previous Congress regime, Manipur was the victim of ethnic clashes.” In Manipur, everything used to be administered by insurgents. “Who was in charge at the time?” The Prime Minister was questioned.

PM Modi accused the opposition of playing politics with the Manipur problem, saying, “What has happened in Manipur is painful, but no one should play politics with it.”

The opposition has lashed out at the Centre over the violence in the northeastern state, asking for Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to step down immediately.

The Manipur violence:

Ethnic violence occurred in Manipur on May 3 between the Meitei and tribal Kuki people, leading to the deaths of over 150 persons and the displacement of hundreds.

A horrific May 4 video of three women being stripped and paraded naked went viral on social media, prompting several reports of crimes against women.
