A unique step by politicians of Canada to raise awareness about violence against women, Canadian male politicians wore pink high heels inside Canada Parliament. 

The event was part of their ‘Hope in High Heels’ campaign, and Halton Women’s Place hosted it.

On the internet, viral videos and photographs showed male MPs wandering around the Parliament wearing pink-coloured high heels.

Omar Alghabra, Canada’s Minister of Transport, expressed his gratitude on Twitter. “Violence against women is still prevalent in our society,” he stated. 

Hope in Heels is an event that raises awareness about violence against women while urging men and boys to become involved in the solution. We wore their iconic pink pumps to support this vital charity.”

“Now that I have your attention,” Alghabra continued, “violence against women takes many forms, not just physical.” Men, beginning with myself, must be conscious of the ramifications of our acts and words and do more to make room for women around us.”

Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development Karina Gould brought the event back to Parliament for the fourth year.

The programme aims to educate men and boys about gender-based violence and the importance of ending it. It is about establishing a systematic conversation in society about violence against women. 

“We welcomed @HaltonWomensPl to the Hill for the 4th yearly Hope in High Heels on the Hill to continue the discussion on systemic violence against women,” Gould wrote on Twitter. Educating men as well as boys is part of the answer, and it is all of our responsibility to put an end to gender-based violence.”

According to Halton Women’s Place, they were ecstatic to see people from all political parties participate and wear high heels in favour of reducing gender-based violence in society.
