Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani is running for Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani to become Asia’s richest person, business news broadcaster ET Now reported.

Earlier in the day, the chairman of Reliance Industries led the race with a total net worth of $91 billion, according to the Billionaires Index. The value of the Adani group chairman is $88.8 billion. The index informs that the year-to-date change in net worth was $14.3 billion for Mukesh Ambani, while it was $55 billion for Gautam Adani.

Tesla founder Elon Musk topped the list, followed by Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault. Finally, Ambani and Adani secured 12 and 13 seats, respectively.

The Billionaires Index is a daily ranking of the 500 wealthiest people in the world. The previous month, Ambani’s total net worth was set at $101 billion. The actual net worth of the Adani Group chairman is $73.3 billion.

ET Now said Reliance Industries was under pressure in the stock market after deciding to re-evaluate the sale of shares in Saudi Aramco. It closed 1.48% lower at Rs 2350.90. On the other hand, Adani Group shares are trading in an upward trend. Adani Enterprises closed 2.76% higher at Rs 1754.65, and Adani Ports closed 4.59% higher on Wednesday at Rs 762.75.

All group shares except Adani Green and Adani Total are in positive territory today.

According to the online edition of Moneycontrol, the chairman of Adani Enterprises passed the chairmanship of Reliance Industries due to the group’s market cap. In addition, the publication informs that Ambani has been the number one in Asia since 2015.

Other prominent Indian names in the billionaire index are Wipro chairman Azim Premji (34th), HCL founder Shiv Nadar (54th), and D-Mart founder Radhakishan Damani (64th).
