BCCI Confirms Coaching Exits, Eyes New Appointments Soon

The BCCI has clarified that assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip did not resign from India’s coaching staff, but rather saw their contracts lapse without renewal. Board secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that both coaches’ terms concluded in June, though they stayed on through the end of India’s tour of the United Kingdom before departing.

Contracts Come to a Natural End

According to Saikia, ten Doeschate’s two-year deal ended on June 10, while Dilip’s one-year extension wrapped up on June 8. Saikia stressed that neither coach resigned, since their contracts had simply run their course, and the board is not extending them further. The BCCI is currently evaluating two to three candidates and expects to finalize a replacement within a day or two, ensuring India has a new fielding coach in place for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, where the team will play a two-match Test series in early August.

Backgrounds of the Departing Coaches

Ten Doeschate, widely seen as a close ally of head coach Gautam Gambhir, previously worked with him at Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2024 IPL season before following him into the national setup. He is expected to return to KKR ahead of the 2027 IPL. Dilip, meanwhile, joined India’s coaching staff in 2021 under Rahul Dravid and was the only member of that group retained when Gambhir took charge. He was dropped after the 2025 Champions Trophy but was brought back for the Test series against England.

Alongside Gambhir, Morne Morkel — formerly with Lucknow Super Giants — remains a key figure in India’s coaching set-up as the board moves to fill the two vacant roles before the Sri Lanka series begins.
