BCCI Issues Strict 7-Page Advisory to IPL Franchises, Threatens Player Suspensions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a formal seven-page advisory to all 10 IPL franchises, warning of honey-trap risks and tightening conduct protocols for the 2026 season. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia authored the directive, urging franchise managements to stay alert against targeted compromise attempts and potential sexual misconduct allegations in high-profile sporting environments.

Strict Hotel Protocols Put in Place

A dedicated task force comprising BCCI and IPL Operations Team members will now carry out surprise checks in players’ hotel rooms. No outsiders will be permitted entry without prior approval from the team manager, regardless of their personal relationship with the player. All players and support staff must inform their Security Liaison Officer (SLO) and Team Integrity Officer (TIO) before leaving the hotel at any hour, for any reason. Team managers are also required to maintain detailed records of all approved guest visits and hotel movements throughout the tournament.

Heavy Penalties for Non-Compliance

The BCCI has made clear that violations will be treated as serious disciplinary matters. Consequences may include show-cause notices, financial penalties, suspension, or outright disqualification — imposed at the sole discretion of the BCCI and IPL Governing Council. Any breach must be self-reported to the IPL Operations Team at the earliest opportunity.

The board also reminded franchise owners to avoid communicating with players or dugout staff during live matches. The BCCI has reserved the right to conduct periodic audits to ensure full compliance across all franchises.
