Boeing Inaugurates Engineering Center in India

During the inauguration of Boeing’s India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that India would soon witness the design and manufacturing of Boeing aircraft within the country.

The BIETC is Boeing’s largest facility outside the United States, focusing on research and development.

Boeing Investment and Campus Details:

Boeing disclosed an investment of $200 million in the 43-acre BIETC campus, emphasizing its commitment to expanding its presence in India.

While specific employment figures were not provided, the facility is expected to significantly contribute to Boeing’s existing workforce of over 6,000 employees across various centers in India.

Urgency for Aircraft Manufacturing Ecosystem:

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the necessity of swiftly establishing an indigenous aircraft manufacturing ecosystem in India, acknowledging the country’s immense potential.

This aligns with Boeing’s efforts to tap into the burgeoning aviation market in India, currently the world’s fastest-growing.

Boeing has experienced heightened interest in its aircraft in India, where travel demand surpasses the available supply of planes. India’s Akasa Air recently ordered 150 Boeing 737 MAX narrowbody jets, underlining the aircraft manufacturer’s growing presence in the region.

Call for Jetliner Assembly in India:

India’s civil aviation minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has previously urged Boeing and its rival Airbus to consider setting up jetliner assembly facilities in the country.

The move aligns with the government’s vision to boost domestic manufacturing and strengthen the aviation sector.

Boeing already collaborates with India’s Tata Group, producing AH-64 Apache helicopter fuselages and 737 aircraft vertical fin structures.

The inauguration of BIETC reinforces Boeing’s commitment to leveraging local expertise and resources for its global operations.
