The firm outlined its plans at a special event on Tuesday, stating it would work with OpenAI, the startup behind the ChatGPT tool, to improve its Bing search engine and Edge web browser and the available data.

The report comes a day after Google announced it is releasing its artificial intelligence chatbot, called Bard, in reply to the massive success of ChatGPT.

Microsoft is betting its future on AI through billions of dollars of investment and aiming to capitalize on the global excitement surrounding ChatGPT, a tool that’s aroused millions of people to the prospects of the latest AI technology and is already altering how people gather data.

“This technology is going to reshuffle pretty much every software type,” said Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s chief executive, in a briefing for journalists at the Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington.

The action is meant to rival Google and claim extensive returns from tools that speed up content creation, automating tasks if not positions themselves. Shares of Microsoft climbed 3.2% in the afternoon US trading to $265.10 a share.

Its human-like replies to any prompt have given people new ways to think about the chances of marketing, writing term papers, sharing news, or even how to query data online.

At the briefing, Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s customer chief marketing officer, said that the Bing search engine would be upgraded by AI and run on a new, next-generation “large language model” that is more robust than ChatGPT.
