RCB vs GT: What Happens If Rain Washes Out IPL 2026 Qualifier 1?

The stage is set for one of IPL 2026’s most anticipated clashes — Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. However, with unpredictable hill-station weather looming over the venue, fans are understandably anxious about rain playing spoilsport.

No Reserve Day for Qualifier 1

Unlike the IPL 2026 final, Qualifier 1 has no reserve day. The official playing conditions confirm that a reserve day has been allocated solely for the final — a decision informed by the 2023 final, which was famously completed on its reserve day after persistent rain delays. For every other playoff fixture, including this one, teams must settle matters within the allotted window.

To give the match the best chance of a result, extra time has been built into the schedule. This ensures that at least a five-over-per-side contest can be held under most weather scenarios, keeping a Duckworth-Lewis-Stern result possible even after significant interruptions.

Who Advances If the Match Is Abandoned?

Should the game be completely washed out without a single ball bowled, the points table takes precedence. If both teams are level on points, Net Run Rate (NRR) becomes the tiebreaker. Currently, RCB hold a superior NRR to GT — meaning a total washout would send the Challengers directly to the final without facing a delivery.

As for the weather, forecasters predict mostly clear skies by evening, with only a brief two-hour rain window possible during the day. Temperatures are expected to range between 14°C and 21°C. A full match remains the most likely outcome — but cricket, like the weather in Dharamshala, rarely guarantees anything.
