Residents of seven SRA buildings in Mumbai’s Worli area have been facing severe challenges after their power supply was disconnected, affecting elevator operation and water supply.

The issue stems from unpaid accumulated bills for power, water, and property taxes, amounting to INR 95.23 lakh ($132,000).

Residents Struggle Amid Power Disruption

The lack of electricity has made daily life extremely difficult for residents, especially the elderly, who are unable to access basic amenities like water. Some families have been forced to relocate temporarily due to the situation.

Legal Battles and Unresolved Issues

Despite legal protections and documentation proving their rights, residents continue to face eviction and harassment. The issue of unpaid bills dates back to notices served by the Bombay Suburban Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) in December 2023.

Developer’s Responsibility and Government Intervention

Residents demand that the developer, Omkar Realtors and Developers, take responsibility for the outstanding dues. While the developer claims to have fulfilled its obligations, residents argue that the society’s elected body was dissolved, leaving them unable to access funds deposited by the developer.

Call for Government Action

Former Sena corporator Samadhan Sarvankar and residents have sought intervention from the guardian minister to address the situation. They emphasize the need for the developer to clear all outstanding dues and ensure the welfare of residents.
