Saif Ali Khan Clarifies Taimur Remark: ‘I Apologised for Playing the Evil Villain’
Saif Ali Khan has issued a clarification regarding a recent statement that sparked speculation about his son, Taimur, and the actor’s role in the controversial film Adipurush. In a video that surfaced from a Netflix India promotional interaction, Saif mentioned apologising to his son, leading many to believe he regretted letting Taimur watch the film. However, the actor has now clarified the context of his comment, stressing that the apology was not about the film itself, but about playing a fearsome villain on screen.
In a statement, Saif said, “I apologised to Tim for being the evil villain in the film. I was growling and smashing everyone in sight! He said, ‘Next time you should play the hero.’ I stand by all my films, and this one too.”
The confusion began during a lighthearted conversation between Saif and his Jewel Thief co-star Jaideep Ahlawat on Netflix India’s YouTube channel. Saif recalled a moment where Taimur gave him a certain look after watching Adipurush, which led many fans to assume the young boy disliked the film or was scared by his father’s performance. Saif clarified that Taimur’s reaction was simply a humorous side-eye to his intimidating screen presence, and not a critique of the film.
Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, is a modern cinematic retelling of the Ramayana. In the film, Saif plays Lankesh, a character inspired by the demon king Ravana, while Prabhas portrays Ram and Kriti Sanon plays Sita. The film was highly anticipated but also drew criticism upon release for its visual effects, dialogue, and portrayal of key mythological characters.
Despite the backlash, Saif stood by his performance and the film. His portrayal of Lankesh was particularly intense and stylised, a far cry from his usual roles, which may have startled his young son. However, the actor’s light-hearted anecdote was never intended to imply regret over participating in the project.
Meanwhile, Saif was recently seen in the Netflix film Jewel Thief, alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, Nikita Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor. The crime drama is currently streaming and has received attention for its gripping performances and suspense-driven narrative.
The episode highlights the fine line public figures walk when making offhand remarks, especially when children or high-profile projects are involved. Saif’s clarification reinforces his commitment to his work while also offering a glimpse into his role as a father navigating how his children perceive his on-screen persona.
