Vande Bharat trains project contract given to a Russian company

Transmashholding (TMH) has won the offer to make, supply, and sustain 120 16-car long-distance Vande Bharat trains for the Indian Railways. 

Transmashholding (TMH), Russia’s biggest manufacturer of locomotives and rail supplies, has won an international bid to create, store and maintain 120 Vande Bharat express trains for the Indian Railways, Russian press agency TASS reported on Monday (April 17).

The 16-car long-distance trains are part of a valuable programme to re-equip the national page on long-distance paths. The report stated they could reach a pace of up to 160 kilometres per hour.

Terms of the tender specified that the agreement be signed by June 1. As per the news, the deal will pay $1.8 billion for providing the Vande Bharat trains and $2.5 billion for their supervision for 35 years. Regarding indexation, the contract’s entire value could be as much as $6.5 billion.

Addressing a press meeting, Transmashholding’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kirill Lipa stated, “The decision has been completed, but the paper itself has not been signed (it will be signed) under 45 days from March 29.” 

TMH participated in the tender in a consortium with the Indian state building and engineering firm RVNL. The Russian company won bids from companies such as Alstom, Stadler, Siemens, and a consortium of regional producers shown by Titagarh and BHEL, which bid the second-lowest.’
