India reports 55,079 new Coronavirus infections and 876 deaths; Amit Shah to work from the hospital.

On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was admitted to AIIMS, after complaining of body aches and fatigue, days after testing negative for the novel COVID-19 virus. According to the premier hospital’s statement, the 55-year-old has been hospitalized for post COVID care. Shah had tested negative for the deadly infection on August 14, and the hospital says that he is comfortable. On Independence Day, Amit Shah had hoisted the national flag at his residence and was advised by doctors to stay home quarantined for a few days. The AIIMS’ statement also revealed that Amit Shah will be able to work from the hospital. 

India’s COVID-19 tally breaches the 27-lakh mark:

On Tuesday, India reported a fresh rise in COVID-19 infections with 55,079 new cases. This meant that the country’s coronavirus tally surged past the 27-lakh mark, at 27,02,743. In the last 24 hours, India registered 876 new deaths, which took the death toll in the country to 51,927. As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of total recoveries in the country rose to 19,77,780, and active cases increased to 673,166. The fatality rate in the country stands at 1.92 percent and the recovery rate of India improved to 73.18 percent.

Maharashtra’s COVID-19 tally breaches six-lakh, death toll over 20,000:

The worst-affected coronavirus Indian states, are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. Infection in Maharashtra crossed six lakhs, with new 8493 cases and 228 deaths. This death toll in the state now stands at 20,265.     

Globally, more than 21.8 million people have been infected with the deadly disease and over 773,000 people have succumbed to death.
