Anjanadham: A New Community Centre in Gandhinagar

The Anjana-Chaudhary community in Gujarat is the latest to announce a multipurpose community center named Anjanadham. The center aims to foster its members’ educational, social, and financial progress.

The center, proposed to be built on nine bighas of land in Jamiyatpura, Gandhinagar, is expected to cost an estimated Rs 300 crore.

It will include facilities such as a coaching center for competitive exams, a vocational training center, hostels, an NRI/senior citizen Bhavan, an auditorium, a library, a mess, and a healthcare unit.

Formation of Anjanadham Trust and Funding:

The Anjanadham Trust has been established to oversee the project, which aims to be completed within three years. The community recently announced the project at an event in Gandhinagar, where leading community members pledged a fund of Rs 151 crore.

Major donors include businessmen Manilal Chaudhary (Rs 51 crore), Shankar Chaudhary of Shanku’s Group (Rs 35 crore), and Haribhai V Chaudhary (Rs 25 crore). Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, a notable figure in the community, attended the event.

Addressing Educational and Skill Development Needs:

Manilal Chaudhary, a trustee of the Anjanadham Trust, emphasized the community’s need for resources to aid in skill development and education, particularly for those residing in villages.

The center aims to help community members adapt to modern times and utilize various government schemes. The project also plans to guide sports, aiming to nurture the community’s youth to potentially reach Olympic levels.

Comparative Initiatives by Other Communities:

The trend of building multipurpose centers has been prevalent among various communities in Gujarat. The Patidars, for instance, established Sardardham in Ahmedabad following the 2015 quota agitation. Sardardham now boasts six branches in Gujarat and one in Delhi.

This center has been instrumental in training candidates for competitive exams, with eight out of 25 UPSC candidates from Gujarat this year being trained at Sardardham.

Similarly, the Rabaris, through the Raika Education Charitable Trust (RECT), are building a coaching center-cum-residential complex near Vaishnodevi. The facility will accommodate 2,000 competitive exam aspirants and is expected to be completed in the next six months.

Anjanadham Expansion Plans and Community Support:

Haribhai Chaudhary, a noted philanthropist and trustee of the Anjanadham Trust, mentioned plans to expand the center from nine bighas to 20 bighas.

The center aims to stay relevant to changing societal trends by offering training in areas such as artificial intelligence, animal husbandry, and sports.

Haribhai highlighted the support from Sardardham and other community centers in achieving their goals.

Broader Impact and Future Developments:

The initiative by the Anjana-Chaudhary community reflects a broader movement among various communities in Gujarat to establish centers that support educational and skill development.

Similar projects by Dalit groups, such as the Shikshan Vikas Seva Trust and the Vankar Seva Sangh, aim to provide similar facilities for their members.

These centers are designed to offer residential and training facilities to help community members achieve academic and professional success.
