UP Police claims that after an accident on the road,
Vikas Dubey opened fire on the Police and refused tosurrender, injured two cops and got shot himself in Police’s
retaliation fire.
In a dramatic set of events
that feel very much like a Bollywood movie, Kanpur gangster Vikas Dubey was killed in a police
encounter on early
Friday morning. Dubey was a prime accuse in the killing of eight
police personnel in Kanpur 8 days ago, was killed after he allegedly
tried to escape from the police who were bringing the notorious history-sheeter
to Kanpur from Ujjain, where the Madhya Pradesh Police caught him yesterday.
Vikas Dubey was arrested near the Mahakaal Mandir in Ujjain on Thursday. To bring the gangster back to
Uttar Pradesh, a police team from the state had gone to MP. But it was not to
be as the gangster carrying five-lakh-reward on his head, was killed by the UP
police in an encounter.
Dubey attempted to flee:
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kanpur, Dr Anil Kumar in a statement said that Kanpur police along with UP’s Special Task Force (STF) were bringing Vikas Dubey on transit remand to Kanpur. The vehicle in which Dubey was traveling overturned after it met with an accident in Kanpur’s Sachendi area at around 7.00 in the morning. The police claim that Dubey took advantage of the accident and attempted to flee with a service pistol that belonged to one of the police officers.
An encounter right out of the
Bollywood movies?
But another police team vehicle
arrived on the spot minutes after Dubey’s escape and commenced a combing
operation to nab Dubey. The police further claimed that Dubey, saw the police
closing in on him and opened fire at them. Dubey injured two police officers
and rejected to surrender to
the cops. The police retaliated with gun-fire and Dubey was wounded. Dr Anil
Kumar said that all the three people injured in the encounter were rushed to a
hospital where doctors declared Dubey dead.
