India breaches 13,000-mark for Covid-19 infections in 24 hours.

India’s tally up to 380,532 cases with 12,573 deaths; Polling for 19 Rajya Sabha seats today.

On Friday, India reported fresh 13,586 Covid-19 infections breaching the 13,000-mark for the first time. This is the biggest single-day spike in the number of cases and takes the nation’s Coronavirus tally to 380,532 revealed the Union Health Ministry’s data. The country registered 336 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 12,573.

Recoveries cross 200000-mark:  

The number of patients who recovered from this fatal virus increased to over 2 lakh mark, at 204,711 recoveries. The recovery rate improved to 53.79 percent and the total number of active coronavirus cases rose to 163,248. 

Rajya Sabha polls today:

Elections for 19 Rajya Sabha seats across eight states began today after its postponement due to the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak. Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan will witness a close fight between the BJP and Congress and the counting of votes will begin at 5 PM IST.

Maharashtra, Delhi register record-breaking numbers:

Maharashtra and Delhi registered their biggest daily spike in the number of Covid-19 infections with 3752 and 2877 fresh cases respectively. The worst affected state of India due to the global pandemic, Maharashtra’s tally rose to 120,504 with 5751 fatalities. The second worst affected state, Tamil Nadu’s coronavirus tally reached 52,334 and a strict 12-day lockdown in three districts including Chennai will be implemented by the state government. Delhi’s Covid-19 tally stood at 49,979 with 1969 causalities. The fourth worst affected state, Gujarat breached 25,000 cases mark after the Chief Minister Vijay Rupani confirmed that the state will not go into lockdown again.

Global Covid-19 count has reached over 8.4 million with over 446,000 reportedly dead.
