Rishab Shetty’s highly anticipated sequel “Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1” continues its impressive theatrical run, outpacing Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan’s “Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra” in the 5th weekend box office battle. Despite releasing on OTT platforms for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam versions on October 31st, the film has maintained strong momentum in cinemas, showcasing its exceptional connection with audiences.

Strong Weekend Performance Solidifies Position

During its fifth weekend, Kantara 2 collected Rs 1.85 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 3.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 3.25 crore on Sunday, accumulating a total of Rs 8.70 crore. This achievement secured the film’s position as the 3rd highest 5th weekend grosser in Indian cinema history, surpassing “Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra” which earned Rs 4.45 crore during its corresponding weekend. The performance demonstrates the sequel’s remarkable staying power at the box office.

Industry Recognition and Longevity

Two films currently dominate the 5th weekend rankings: Vicky Kaushal’s “Chhaava” (Rs 23.15 crore) and Ashwin Kumar’s “Mahavatar Narsimha” (Rs 13 crore). Kantara 2’s journey to the 5th week itself is noteworthy, as few films in recent times maintain theatrical presence for such extended periods. The Hindi version is scheduled for OTT release only after completing eight weeks in cinema halls, underscoring the producers’ confidence in its theatrical performance. Meanwhile, “Saiyaara,” the second biggest Hindi film of 2025, managed only Rs 1.5 crore during its 5th weekend, highlighting Kantara 2’s exceptional box office resilience and audience appeal.
