Major Gujarat drugs bust: methamphetamine seized in factory raid

The district SOG and Surat police led these raids together. Drugs presumed to be illegal were sent to testing for confirmation.

Illegal Drugs Seized in Ankleshwar

In a significant crackdown on illegal drugs, Gujarat police on Sunday seized over 427 kg of methamphetamine (MD) from a factory located in the Ankleshwar industrial area in Bharuch district.

The operation, jointly conducted by the district’s Special Operations Group (SOG) and Surat police, resulted in the confiscation of drugs valued at approximately ₹14.10 lakh. One suspect has been arrested, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the illegal operation.

According to SOG police inspector Anand Chaudhary, the drugs were found at a company named ‘Avasar Enterprise’ within the Ankleshwar GIDC area. The seized drugs were sent to a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for confirmation.

Recent Drug Seizures in Gujarat

This latest raid follows a series of major drug seizures in Gujarat over the past month. Earlier in October, Gujarat and Delhi police jointly seized over 500 kg of cocaine, worth ₹5,000 crore, from Avkar Drugs Limited in Ankleshwar.

This seizure was part of a larger operation against an international narcotic smuggling ring, reportedly based on intelligence inputs about a cocaine shipment entering Delhi.

The investigation also led to the seizure of 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, marking the first time such a drug was found in the capital. Several suspects were arrested during this operation, including individuals from Delhi and Mumbai.

Gujarat’s Growing Anti-Drug Operations

In a further operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) confiscated raw materials for mephedrone (MD) drugs, with an estimated street value of ₹1,814 crore, from a factory in Bhopal.

These ongoing efforts are part of a broader crackdown by authorities to disrupt drug trafficking networks across India.

As Gujarat continues to emerge as a key hub for illegal drug operations, law enforcement agencies remain vigilant, with more investigations and raids expected in the near future.
