On Sunday, a Nepali sherpa guide climbed Mount Everest for the 26th time, becoming only the world’s second person to do it, according to trekking officials.

Pasang Dawa Sherpa, 46, stood at the top 8,849-m (29,032-ft) peak, tying Kami Rita Sherpa for the most summits, according to Bigyan Koirala, a government tourist official.

If Kami Rita, currently climbing Everest, makes it to the summit, he could set another record.

According to an official from his firm, Imagine Nepal Treks, Pasang Dawa reached the summit with a Hungarian client.

“They are descending from the top now and also are in good shape,” Dawa Futi Sherpa, a government official, told Reuters.

Sherpas are famed for their climbing abilities and make a living mostly by guiding foreign clientele in the mountains.

According to Dawa Futi, Naila Kiani, a Pakistani lady who ascended the peak on Sunday, was the very first foreign climber to summit Everest during this year’s climbing season, which runs from March to May.

This could not be independently confirmed because numerous international climbers are presently on their way to the summit, just a day after the ropes to the summit were installed.

According to the Himalayan Times, Kiani, a 37-year-old banker working in Dubai, had already climbed four of the world’s 14 highest mountains.

This year, Nepal gave a record 467 permits to international climbers attempting to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

Each climber is normally accompanied by at least one sherpa guide, raising concerns that the Hillary Step, a tight portion below the summit, will become overcrowded.

As per the Himalayan database and Nepali officials, Everest has climbed over 11,000 times since it was 1st ascended by Sir Edmund Hillary as well as Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953, with over 320 people dying in the process.
