Rahul Gandhi Names Amarinder Singh as Favourite BJP Leader

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi kicked off an “Ask Me Anything” session on Instagram on Thursday, inviting young people and students to put questions to him directly. Announcing the initiative on X, the Leader of Opposition said he wanted to hear from Gen Z and would respond to as many queries as possible. The Congress party later shared video clips of several of his answers.

A Lighthearted Pick

Among the questions Gandhi tackled was one asking him to name his favourite leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party. He picked Captain Amarinder Singh, the former Punjab chief minister who left the Congress to join the BJP. Gandhi said the two share a good rapport, describing Singh as knowledgeable about military history and signing off his answer with a playful “Hello, uncle!”

Not all the questions were light-hearted, however. Several users pressed Gandhi on more serious political issues, including the ongoing protests in Jharkhand.

On the Jharkhand Protests

Addressing student unrest in the state, Gandhi said protests by students anywhere in the country reflect a deeper failure of the education system to serve the youth. He argued that India’s education system has become both inadequate and prohibitively expensive, and called on governments across the political spectrum to take student demands seriously rather than dismiss them.

The AMA format marks the latest attempt by Gandhi and the Congress party to engage younger voters through social media, mixing policy commentary with more informal, personal exchanges aimed at building rapport with a demographic increasingly active on platforms like Instagram.
